Inside a private studio of E-Wrestling News, two couches are set across from each other with a table between them. The lighting is well placed for the center of the studio where the center of attraction will be; Denzel Porter sits on one couch and is dressed professionally. Denzel opens with a greeting.
Denzel Porter: Thank you for tuning in on this day, and I do have a special guest here with me: a star in Pro Wrestling, an OWA Champion, a Trainer, a coach, and most recently a man that cheated death. Please welcome The Dreadknight Michael Bishop!!!!
Michael Bishop enters pretty quick and clean; the man is cut and dry. Jeans and a CatchSportsPro staff quarterzip, with his newly reacquired, unvacated OWA World Heavyweight Championship with him proudly on his shoulder. In an OWA Ring, he looks normal, right at home, here in the studio, he looks as he should… a Heavyweight Warrior, an absolute behemoth of a man. A more reinvigorated tone in his step as he greets Denzel.
Michael Bishop: Been a long time coming, Denzel. Shame it took all this, huh? Ha Ha!!
Denzel shakes Bishop's hand and then takes a seat back down as he looks over some notes for a moment before looking at him. Mike takes his seat, fixing the Gold and Black strap neatly on the table as he sits back.
Denzel Porter: So great for you to be back in the living with us and very excited to have you on the show today, but let's talk about twenty days ago I think it's been since the incident that happened at OWA Season Five Kick off show. You were in the ring being celebrated for such a great accomplishment but then things turned ugly. Can you tell us what was going through your mind as you started to feel ill?
Bishop nods a bit as he thinks back to that day, a pretty understandable exhale as we see his eyes and mind wander for a second.
Michael Bishop: Everyone likes to talk about my “health” and “age”, the fact that I’ve been able to survive and thrive in this environment for so long. I wanna say next year, it’ll be 20 years that I’ve actively done combat sports. Time is an economy in it, your ability to keep going, and your currency is the body. Deathmatches, Hardcore spots, all these things.. They’re well known. I got the nickname “The Revenant”, a moniker, for my long ability to come back from these things in both the octagon and the squared circle.
Mike sits back a bit, rubs his temple
Michael Bishop: Knockdowns, Knockouts, pipes to the skull, blades to the neck, C4 bricks to the face… hell, 300 million voltz of electricity to the heart. Nothing. Well, I mean, I got pretty close! Ha Ha! But… even if, I still felt fine. It’s weird, you know when you’re fine and not, right? Even when you’re sick Denz’, there’s a part of you saying you’re alright. Sure, you get close to the edge, near death experiences… you feel that void’s call. When I approached those ring ropes to exit… something
Bishop snaps his fingers.
Michael Bishop: -flipped off. Like, the breathe was out of my lungs, my blood stopped pumping. A switch was flipped. Obviously… the human body is complex, it takes a minute for things to set in, stuff still moves. In my case… 49 seconds. And then. Nothing. It wasn’t really, “ill”, I guess, more so… like the batteries got taken out.
Denzel nods his head in understanding as he stays focused on Bishop.
Denzel Porter: What you describe is exactly how I saw it when watching live, I was telling my staff something isnt right about Bishop right now. Your eyes were dazed and looked off balance, just about everyone was concerned for you and even much more once you hit the mat. In all my years of covering this sport, I thought I had seen it all.
Denzel pauses for a moment as he fixes his tie and adjusted his voice.
Denzel Porter: Until you was out and there was no certainty on what your condition was at the time and then as we waited for answer we heard the voice of Arata Asakura come over the stadium and stake claim for the evil deed. I couldnt belive what I was hearing when he explain the reason for his actions. I was disgusted with his actions and was hoping you would be ok but then the news broke that you had died. Many of your friends and even rivals were upset at what Arata Asakura had done and I must ask did you think he was capable of such things?
Without hesitation, Mike nods.
Michael Bishop: Yes, no question about it. For those who don’t know… this entire this is but one chapter in Arata’s war against, well, everyone. A couple of years ago he was the talk of the town, coming up in OWA, THE Spartan’s Champion. But then he fell off. One loss after another, coming up short to make it into the World Title picture. Me and him share a duality, I came back from injury around that time and we were both in the midcard, we both faced two hard roads into the main event scene: You can get to it, no matter what, or choose desperation.
Bishop leans forward.
Michael Bishop: Arata has spent the last several years burning every bridge he’s had in order to be some sort of “Dragon King”. Instead of earning his way into title shits, he weasels in. He cuts every corner, spills however much blood he has just to get championship reigns. The Golden Dawn is a small army with one goal: Make Arata the Chosen One. When I stepped into that world title match at Final Destination 4, Arata threatened “Retribution”. I knew the risks, had to be done, I wasn’t about to let his murdering hands latch onto one of the most revered straps in Combat Sports today. And, well, as you can see… I got the job done and kept my word, although as you also saw, Arata kept his word.
Denzel looks with great concern as he nods his head.
Denzel Porter: Never been a fan of doing things the dirty way, but what can I dsay it seems Arata has made a career out of it and has gotten away with it so far, but Im sure youll have something to say about that soon but can you tell us what happened during the time you was out? Everyone thought you was dead and never coming back so it was a shock to us all to learn the truth.
Michael Bishop: Honestly…
Mike gets much more serious, he leans forward, thinking back to it.
Michael Bishop: I don’t know much of what the boys were doing, still collecting their info… but as for me… I still wonder if it was “real”. They say after the body dies, the brain continues to function, time is relative… effectively you could be dead but your brain thinks it’s alive. However… this didn’t feel like a dream, it seemed like a nightmare but real. I’m not a religious person, I’m not a man of god. That’s to say I’m not an atheist but… this sport we’re in, it’s a lot more fantastical than it used to be Denzel, you know.
Bishop sits back, crossing his arms.
Michael Bishop: Back when I was first coming up, it was the old school gladiatorial fight-for-your-life, now? Gods, Demons, and all the rest in between. Like I said, this didn’t feel like a dream. It was an infinite… forest? Fog, screams. Nothing but horrors and lucid thoughts every moment I was there. Every man I had cut down inside of the cage, the octagon, the bloodsport pit, or the ring came for me. Souls that didn’t move on, still seeking vengeance against the man who put them there. A never ending war… I was coherent for the entire thing. Every second… every day, every year. From what I’ve been told, if it was real, it was purgatory. But between the rest of what I saw down there, could also have been Hell.
Mike rubs his eyes, shaking off the memories of it.
Michael Bishop: I DID say when I came in here, stuff was going to get weird. Then again, I’m a formerly dead man so, “weird” is relative.
Denzel sits up and looks at his notes and back towards Bishop with an understanding look.
Denzel Porter: Man that was just powerful to hear, I mean Ive had some heart to heart interviews before but what you said was so deep and regardless of anyones belief they cant deny you had one of those out of body moments. I can only imagine what it all means to you after that and what changes it might make in you, but now that you are back from the dead whats next for you, any vengence against Arata or any new goals you wish to complete now that youve been given a second chance at life?
Michael reaches over and taps the top of the OWA World Heavyweight Championship
Michael Bishop: This belt has been held by a lineage of champions, all historic, some good, others bad. One of the more recent ones was Arata himself, and it’s symbolic of the place the world was in. Corrupted, living under gunpoint of the Golden Dawn in fear and terror. To hell with that- I’ve had enough of the melancholy nature of the business, people being complacent with evil, sitting around waiting for the next “war” to happen. I was injured for 20 months before returning, one of the reasons I got off that couch was to leave this place better than when I found it 20 years ago.
Bishop stares for a good minute at the championship, the strap of leather and gold he fought for years just to get a chance at obtaining… Let alone possessing right now.
Michael Bishop: The World champion is the world’s champion, the people’s champion. Sometimes, they’re shitty people. But not now, and not ever again. It’s time to do what needs to be done and be a fighting champion. To take the fight to any challenger, any foe, to restore lineage to not only this belt but to the sport. To be the standard bearer for anyone seeking to be the world champion, and anyone like me, who crossed over from the Octagon. And if and when the time comes for Arata to remerge and face his due justice… to draw that line in the sand as the baddest man on the planet, the premiere heavyweight.
Mike sits up straight and looks Denzel in the eyes.
Michael Bishop: A lot of ups, and a lot of downs. But… a while ago you asked who people might think would be Wrestler of the Year? Who was gonna be THE competitor, wrestler of 2022? Look no further. 40-Man Clash of the Titan Winner, World Heavyweight Champion, and the first and only person to hold the oldest world titles in OWA and SSW at the same time, effectively uniting the east and west, where many have failed, all before defying death and fighting the grim reaper to a stalemate. And that’s just within the first six months? My mission statement? Be here with you 240 days from now to talk about how I topped all of that.
Mike sits back, crossing his legs.
Michael Bishop: I’ve had enough of death, Denz’. Time to start living and being the World Champion to beat all others…
Denzel looks impressed with Bishop as he sits up straight and shakes his hand.
Denzel Porter: I hear you Bishop and I recognize your accomplishments and what you've been doing for the business. I look forward to seeing more from you as the year goes on but that’s all the time we have for this interview and I appreciate you stopping by and looking forward to seeing more from you the rest of the year but that's all the time we have for now, so for everyone watching this was another exclusive Interview Denzel Porter, I'll see you all next time for more BreakingNews.
